Membership ribbon consisting of two bars, two ribbons, and a medallion. The upper bar has a pin back and is enameled blue inside of a gold frame. There is a flying eagle at the center. From the bar hangs a grosgrain ribbon with a pink stripe in the center and red, white, and blue stripes along the edges. A second bar is attached to the bottom of the ribbon and is shaped like a flying eagle with sun rays emitting from it. The eagle is carrying a banner molded with symbols. A red, white, and blue striped grosgrain ribbon hangs from the second bar. At the bottom is a cross-shaped medallion with four stars between the arms and an anchor with a central round logo of two men, a woman, and a child surrounded by the inscription, "SPANISH-AMERICAN-WAR-VETERANS 1898". The arms of the cross are labeled "PORTO RICO", "PHILIPPINES", and "CUBA". The top arm is covered by the top of the anchor, which reads, "U.S.A." The back of the medallion is engraved, "Lt. E. H. Prouty Co M 1st. Vt. Vol."Context
Owned by Edward H. Prouty as a member of the United Spanish War Veterans, a fraternal organization for veterans of the Spanish-American War. At the time of his death, Prouty was the last living officer of the Spanish-American War in Vermont.Acquisition
