Boots

Pair of cowboy boots

Name/Title

Boots

Entry/Object ID

1989.21.1a-b

Description

Sales sample boots. The boots reach to wearer's mid-shin, with a light leather cuff. The cuff is stamped with the image of a man on a horse and the words, "THESE ARE NICE BOOTS / TRY A PAIR". There are 2 straps within the shaft for pulling them up. There is a bar of metal at the front of the toe box. The soles are made of thick leather, with a short heel. They are stamped with the number 7 on the sole. The nails in the heel have square heads.

Use

Even though these boots could fit a young child, they are styled and shaped for an adult foot. That plus the logo stamped on the front tell us that these were likely sales samples that would have been displayed in storefronts or carried by traveling salesmen.
