Name/Title

Boots

Entry/Object ID

1989.21.2a-b

Description

Sales sample boots. The top edge is scalloped. It opens at the center front with metal eyelets for tying. The sole is thick leather with a stacked leather heel. The number 5 is stamped into the sole near the toe. There is a metal guard across the front of the toe box, and a small metal band stretches between the 2 lowest eyelets. The initials "PA" are stamped into the metal band on the right shoe. The nails attaching the heel extend into the interior of the shoe.

Use

Even though these boots could fit a toddler, the tall heel and steel toe protector likely indicate that these are miniature sales samples of women's boots. Sales samples were displayed in storefronts or carried by traveling salesmen.
