Miniature of middle aged man in formal dress, bust/shoulder view. Left side of mans face is forward. Light brown short hair parted on the left side, moustache but otherwise clean shaven. Pink left cheek. High white collar, black tie and dark charcoal colored jacket. Background is smokey grey with some cream. The painting is on an unknown material (thin ivory?) backed with paper on which is written: "William Royall Tyler. Quincy. Mass. 1888." The miniature does not have a mount and is in no way fitted to the frame.
