Brown heather wool blanket with serged edges. There is a fabric tag in one corner woven with an illustration of hills and trees and the label, "WARRANTED All Wool / VERMONT NATIVES INDUSTRIES / BRIDGEWATER - VERMONT".Context
Vermont Natives Industries ran a woolen mill in Bridgewater for most of the 20th century, closing the operation in 1973. The mill is now a shopping and craft center. It is the oldest remaining 19th century, wood-frame woolen mill building and an example of the kind of mill that existed in dozens of towns throughout the state. A cotton mill preceded the woolen mill, beginning in 1828 and operated until 1835, burning in 1852. A new structure was built that same year and began operating at a woolen mill.Acquisition
