Context

The first Tour de Sol was held in Switzerland in 1985 as both a race and a demonstration of the capabilities of solar-powered vehicles. In 1989, the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association organized the first Tour de Sol event in the United States. The course started in Montpelier, Vermont, and ended in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The cars traveled over four days, stopping in Hanover, New Hampshire, Concord, New Hampshire, and Lowell, Massachusetts, before arriving at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Each day include time for the public to view all the vehicles and lectures.
