This is a stencil used to mark the military belongings of Prentiss C. Wright (1839-1893) of Montpelier during his short service in the Union Army in the Civil War. Wright joined in August of 1862 and his unit was stationed near Washington. He mustered out with a disability in January of 1863 when Company I, 13th Regiment, was around Wolf Run Shoals, a crossing point on the Occuquan River in northern Virginia. After the war, he is listed in census records as a machinist with Wright & Son, a lumber company in Montpelier.Acquisition
