Pieced quilts made from irregularly sized and placed rectangles of woolen fabric in blues, browns, yellows, and greens. . A few squares in the center are pieced from smaller shapes. The reverse is backed in brown pieced wool. The edges are bound with wool in brown, and blues. The quilt is stuffed with wool batter, and rather than being quilted, it is tied.Context
According to popular history, the quilt was brought to Calais in 1789 by Abijah and Lois Wheelock, the first permanent settlers. However, it postdates that by more than half a century.Acquisition
