Brown-and-black plaid silk dress. The plain-woven silk is woven into a black-and-brown plaid with prominent black horizontal lines. It is accented with woven vertical stripes of bright blue, red, and green. The bodice of the dress is lightly boned and fitted to the wearer's body with four tucks angled toward the center front. It opens at the center front and secures with hooks and eyes behind a row of black buttons. The dress has a high neckline, curved shoulders, and loosely-cut sleeves that curve slightly near the cuff. The skirt has a slight train and attaches to the bodice with knife pleats. The bottom of the skirt is faced in stiff cotton, and the hem is bound in green wool tape.Context
