Glass Plate NegativeEntry/Object ID
2020.4.3a-fDescription
6 glass plate negatives in their sleeves, presumably undeveloped. Each sleeve consists of a wooden frame with a leather hinge on the bottom, similar to a bookbinding. The center part of one side is black-dyed wood or cardstock, while the other is black mica. The mica side attaches to a wooden handle that spans the width of the frame in order to be pulled up to expose the glass plate to light. The handle is held in place by a t-pin to prevent accidental exposure. The pin can be twisted when the user is ready to expose the plates. The top of either side of each frame is marked in pencil with "Portrait No. " and numbered 1-12. The inscription, "ROCHESTER OPTICAL CO./ROCHESTER, N.Y." is pressed into the side of each frame.Context
