Description

Foreground ray screen filter with case and lid, box and lid, and sales paper. The filter consists of two flat, circular pieces of glass sandwiching a tinted adhesive that has dried and cracked. (See 2020.4.14a for original appearance.) The glass is set into a silver-toned metal frame with three tabs placed equidistant around the edge for securing to a lens. The inscription "ROYAL FOREGROUND RAY SCREEN. PAT, AP'D FOR/GEORGE MURPHY INC NEW YORK" impressed on the side of the frame. The top is indicated with the impressed inscription, "-TOP". The case consists of a round body and round lid, each covered in red Moroccan leather. The bottom is lined in purple velvet while the lid is lined in black leather. The box consists of a box covered in burgundy paper that slides into a cover wrapped in white paper. The sides of the cover bear the inscription, "ROYAL/Foreground Ray Screen/no. 4 1 1/2 in." The top of the cover bears the inscription "No. 4 1 1/2 in./ROYAL/Foreground Ray Screen/GEROGE MURPHY, INC./New York" with an illustration of the monogram GM.
