Graphite Stamp

Description

Graphite stamp designed by Justin Harris at AO Glass to create custom suncatchers for the 2024 total eclipse in Vermont. The graphite cylinder is smooth on the sides and top and bottom surfaces, with a laser-cut design of the "diamond" moment just before totality. The underside of the stamp has a circle of stars around the edge that were part of an old, discarded design.

Context

Harris writes, "Since 2012, AO Glass has been crafting stamped sun catchers and ornaments with a mastery that reflects their expertise in interpreting graphic symbols through the medium of glass. With a keen eye for capturing the interplay of light within the confines of a flat circle, they have honed their craft to perfection. Spearheaded by Justin M Harris, this particular piece represents a meticulous transformation journey from image to graphite and finally to glass. Harris's vision was to encapsulate the essence of that awe-inspiring 'diamond ring' moment just before the full totality, translating it into a tangible work of art."
