Description

Colorless glass bottle. The bottle has a slender neck and vertical sides that have horizontal ribbed striping pressed in from the mold. The side of the bottle is impressed, "Kist" in angled script in the center of the bottle. The words "6 FL. OZ. PAT. JAN 25 1927 / T.M. REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." are impressed below the word "Kist." The words "MIDDLEBURY / VT. / 29N" are stamped on the base.

Context

This bottle was manufactured in Middlebury, Vermont, presumably for Kist soda. Founded in the 1940s, Kist became famous for orange sodas manufactured in Ohio. Presumably, this bottle was manufactured in Middlebury/East Middlebury for the Kist company. Previous research indicates that there was a glass factory in the 19th century on Lake Dunmore in Salisbury with a side operation in East Middlebury. No further information has been found about 20th century dates of operation.
