Description

Copper coin with a bust on one side and the allegorical figure, Columbia, on the other. The face side shows a right-facing bust of a Roman figure, wearing a laurel wreath on his head, tied with a ribbon at the nape of his neck, and military armor. The words "VERMON AUCTORI" ring the edge. On the reverse, Columbia is shown swathed in loose fabric, seated next to a shield bearing the Union flag. She is holding a staff with a liberty cap in her left hand, and a small branch in her right hand. The date 1787 is at the center bottom. The coin is struck onto a 1785 Nova Constallatio coin, making it appear as if there is an "A" on the bust and an eye on Columbia's stomach.
