Small soapstone box. The box is carved from a single piece of soapstone and has no lid.

Use

Used to carry hot coals to an unlit fire in order to get it lit. According to family history, if their fire went out, they would look to the neighbors' chimneys to see whose fire was lit in order to get embers, using this box to carry them back.
