Description

Portable wooden writing desk. When closed, the desk looks like a wooden box. It opens to reveal a sloped writing surfaced lined with blue velvet. There is a lidded drawer (pen holder) beside an open square compartment (ink holder) at the top of the writing surface. The lower writing surface hinges upward to reveal a compartment for storing papers. Inside the desk are four calling cards and an ink blotter. Two of the cards are printed with the name, "William Scott", and two are printed with the name, "Margaret E. Bain". The bottom of the case is lined with marbleized paper.

Owned by William Scott, who worked as a bookbinder in Burlington, Vermont, after emigrating from Scotland.
