Description

Cream-colored dress with a lace-covered bodice and multi-layered skirt. The dress has elbow-length lace sleeves and a square neckline. The bodice has two straps of chiffon extending from the shoulders to the waistline and embroidered with eyelets in a shooting star pattern. The skirt has three layers, each about 6 inches shorter that the one underneath. The uppermost layer has a scalloped hem, and the innermost layer is reinforced by a row of knife pleats on the interior.

Context

Owned by Alice Emery Ladd Goss (1876-1964) of Middlesex, Vermont. Said to have been Alice's wedding dress, but she was married 21 Sep, 1898, so unless it was remade in the 1910s, the attribution is incorrect. She married Osmund L. Goss (1871-1957) , a salesman for Grand Union Tea Co. They lived in Montpelier and had no children.
