Context

Blazer worn by Attorney Beth Robinson during the final day of arguments before the Vermont Supreme Court in the Baker v. State case on marriage equality. Robinson was arguing for the three same-sex couples who were seeking to marry,. The decision came down Dec. 20, 1999 and said that a ban on same-sex marriage violated rights granted in the state constitution. The decision required the Legislature to enact a law allowing same-sex marriage or some alternative that would provide same-sex couples with the rights that marriage provided to heterosexual couples.
