Sword with metal scabbard and cotton canvas storage bag. The sword's grip is shagreen wrapped with twisted wire. The rain guard shows a spread eagle with the words, "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The blade is elaborated, though lightly, engraved with scrollwork and a large flying eagle carrying a banner that reads, "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The scabbard is engraved, "Capt. M. H. Twitchell." along with several battle locations in Virginia.Context
