Round metal medal molded on one side with two babies and the inscription, "BETTER BABIES". The other side is molded with the words, "BETTER BABIES MEDAL AWARDED BY THE WOMAN'S HOME COMPANION". At the center bottom is a rectangular banner engraved with the name, "Gordon Bruce / Barre, VT / 1919".

Context

Awarded to Gordon Bruce as an infant and the East Montpelier fairgrounds. Tied heavily with eugenics, the Better Babies competition judged infants based on the idea that increasing standardization of babies would increase infant health outcomes.
