Oral history evidence exists of a root club of this “bird-beak” style being used by a Nulhegan Abenaki family as a healing wand to keep away disease in the sickroom. We were lucky to find this larger, stylistically identical example in nearby Northern New Hampshire (provenance says Essex?).Acquisition
