Description

Commemorative ribbon consisting of a bar, ribbon, and medallion. The bar is molded with the word, "SOUVENIR". The grosgrain ribbon is blue in the center with red and white stripes along either edge. It is printed in gold with the inscription, "U. S. V. CAMP GEO. H. THOMAS 1898". The medallion is shaped like a cross pattee with a circular gold disk in the center molded with an image of three bayoneted guns propped against each other with a canteen and large case hanging from the center. The back of the disk is molded with an image of a soldier standing in front of two pup tents.

Context

Worn by Edward Prouty to commemorate his time training at Camp George H. Thomas in Chicamauga, Georgia. The USV (United Spanish War Veterans) was a fraternal organization for veterans of the Spanish-American War that formed in 1904.
