Small ceramic canteen. Memento from Battle of Gettysburg. Writing on one side: "The only lady killed at Gettysburg. July 2, 63." On reverse side is a "Correct photo" of "Jennie Wade." Canteen strap is made out of piece of red string.

Charles F. Branch of Orwell, Vermont, served in the Union Army during the Civil War and collected Civil War mementos after the war. This is from his collection. Mary Virginia "Jennie" Wade, a resident of Gettysburg, was shot during the battle while kneading bread dough in her sister's kitchen.Acquisition
