Description

Pierced tin lantern. The lantern body is round and formed from a single sheet of tin. The top is conical, formed from a circular sheet of tin rolled around the center point. There is a narrow rectangular door on one side that secures with a bent metal latch. The body, top, and door are all pierced from the interior in a decorative pattern. The round metal base has an circle in the center for holding a candle.

Context

Said to have been used in front of a tavern in Waterville, Vermont, from 1807 until 1817.
