Description

Two-piece dress consisting of a bodice and skirt. The fabric is a plain-woven blue silk printed with small, abstract geometric shapes. The bodice opens up the center front and secures with 15 metal buttons. The sleeves are made in two parts: a tight cuff that reaches nearly to the elbow, and a very loose upper. There is a short standing collar trimmed the lace. The sleeve cuffs are also trimmed in lace and decorated with yellow ribbon. The gored skirt is slightly gathered in a self-fabric waistband. The hem is faced with brown glazed cotton and bound in blue woven tape.

Worn by a member of the Waterman family of Fairlee, Vermont. ----- No documents in the file back up this statement about the Vermont connection. The donor was from New Hampshire.
