Description

Triangular flag. The majority of the flag is blue, and there is a red strip along the wide end and a white quatrefoil, or petalled cross, in the center. The quatrefoil was the badge of the XVIII Corps, the use of white on blue indicated the second division, and the red striped indicated the second brigade. The very edge of the wide edge is bound with white fabric and has two metal grommets. The written inscription, "Hd__rs Flag 2d Bdg 18th A.C. Army of the Potomac Maj. C. J. Branch, Newport, Vt.", is along the white binding.

Context

Used by the Second Brigade of the Thirteenth Corps, of which the 9th Vermont was a part, during the Civil War.
