Description

Powder horn inscribed "Samuel Robinson 1754". The horn has a chip carved wooden base plug held by 7 metal pegs. The horn has been cut down tot he dark horn beneath the yellow surface. The wood bears carved designs of crosses within square.

Context

Made by Samuel Robinson of Bennington, Vermont, in 1754. Robinson served as a Captain in the militia during the French and Indian War. He was one of the founders of Bennington and died in England while trying to establish Bennington residents' claims to their land holdings.
