Description

Brass surveying compass with two upright sites attached to the arms. The compass is large and under glass. The cardinal directions are marked with etched leaves, with a fleur-de-lys at north. There are inter-cardinal directions marked with etchings as well. The compass is marked on it's face, "Bleuler, London". The compass sits in a wooden case, appearing to be homemade. There are three wooden blocks inside the case that have become unglued.

Context

Used by William Chamberlin while surveying Peacham, Barton, and other Vermont towns.
