Description

Round side drum. The shell is made from ash wood, stained medium brown, with a decorative tack pattern at the seam. One side is painted with a polychrome eagle and federal shiel on a blue ground. The wood counterhoops are painted red, each with ten holes for ropes. There are leather braces (8 extant) with serrated edges. It has vellum heads over wood flshhoops. There is a handwritten label that reads, "Drums made sold repaired by Henry Fraley Germantown".

Context

Used by Merrill Pillsbury of Johnson, Vermont, during the War of 1812.
