Description

Metal too with one square end one end shaped like a tube; slot in one side that is tapered; tube end has a piece of wood inserted tightly in it; square end looks like a nail head; on the square end is the manufacturer's mark "V & B No. 8" (possibly Vaughan & Bushnell); overall it looks similar to a nail set or punch; length = 3 15/16".

This was in the toolbox of Dwight Joseph Dwinell, who carved the second Ceres statue at the top of the cupola of the Capitol Building.
