Description

Revolving pistol with a dark finish. The pistol has six chambers, with double action and a swing-out cylinder. It is made of blued steel with wood grip. The barrel is round and rifled. It is marked, "Colt PT FA MFG. CC Hartford, CT U.S.A. Patented Aug. 5, 1884 Nov. 6. 88 Mar. 5. 95". The side of the barrel is marked, "Colt A. 38". The rip is decorated with a carved rearing horse. The butt is engraved with the name, "LT E. H. PROUTY Co. M."

Context

Used by Lieutenant Edward H. Prouty of Company M, 1st Vermont Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War.
