Description

Wood handle, iron head pick-shaped at one end, widening to a 1" square bar at other end with letter "V" deeply cut for striking the butts of logs. Owner's logs could thus be itentified and sorted at the end of the river drive. The company owner was VanDyke, thus the "V".

Context

Owned by Winfield Scott Schoppe in Canaan, Vermont. Schoppe was woods boss of a logging crew in Canaan for The Connecticut Valley Lumber Co., and was rear boss on the last river drive in 1915.
