Plaque showing an allegorical figure in a toga and liberty cap holding a round shield with a federal shield on it. The plaque reads, "IN MEMORIAM U.S.S. MAINE".

Context

Made from metal recovered from the USS Maine, which was blown up in Havana Harbor, Cuba, on February 15, 1898. When the ship was raised, much of the metal was made into souvenir objects.
