Rectangular sampler with three alphabets stitched in blue, brown, white, pink, red, and black cross stitches. Each alphabet has letter alternates worked in, rather than placed at the end. The first alphabet is capital marking letters with alternates for A, C, D, G, K, M (2), N (2), S (2), T, U, and W (2). The second alphabet is lowercase marking letters with alternates for g, o, r, t, v, w, y, followed by two ampersands, the numbers 1-9, and the name "Calista Rice." The third alphabet is script letters with alternates for nearly every letter, some not placed in order, and no H. Extra alternates for A, D, K, L are placed at the end. Last is the inscription, "Calista Rice Exampler Woodstock Sep. 18th 1820."Context
