Small black metal rectangular pin with one gold safety pin fastening. The pin has enamel decoration which depicts two snowy white peaks with gold craggy shadows and a light blue sky. On the left is a pointed ski-like light blue column with the inscription: "BERCHTESGADEN" written semi-verticle gold lettering. In the center is a green circle outlined in gold with a golden cartesian-type grid outlined in gold. Within the circle is the lettering in gold, "CISS." Underneath is an inscription: "VI INTERNATIONALE GEHORLOSEN-WINTERSPIELE 1967."Context
Presented to Herbert P. Holbrook who was a class A ski jumper and olympic cross-country skier on the occasion of the 6th annual World Winter Games for the Deaf "Deaflympics" which was held in Berchtesgaden (West Germany). Holbrook won fifth place in cross-country skiing and therefore this pin. He was an alumnus of the Austine School for the Deaf, and admitted to the AAAD (American Athletic Association for the Deaf) in 1964, when he also made the New York Times News twice that year. He competed in Berchtesgaden (West Germany) in the 60's and in the Meribel Olympics in France in 1979.Acquisition
