Pistol

Name/Title

Pistol

Entry/Object ID

1980.30

Description

Single-shot, underhammer percussion pistol. The hammer and nipple are located on the bottom of the barrel in front of the trigger, with the hammer being cocked back manually, and rising to hit the nipple. The barrel has two sights: one at the end and one above the trigger. The interior of the barrel is hexagonal rather than round. The grip is wood. The words, "A. STORY / WINDSOR VT." are stamped into the top of the barrel.

Context

While Asa Story was a gunsmith in Windsor, Vermont, the stamp on the barrel is a misattribution, indicating that it was added later, likely to increase the value.
