Description

Female figure made of papier-mâché over a wire frame wearing a long pink dress. The hair is tied in a low knot at the back of her head. The hat is made of natural-colored straw trimmed with a beaded wire ornament and held on by pink silk ribbon tied in a bow under the chin. The dress is rose-colored fabric with a small white motif woven in. It has a high neck, a stand-up collar, and a lace jabot. The dark rose grosgrain fabric buttons down the front of the bodice, resembling a waistcoat. The top skirt forms a drawn-back apron front, and at the back it forms three pouches. The underskirt is full and pleated. In her hands, the figure holds a dark pink velveteen muff trimmed with a bow and a bird. Dark rose silk bows trim the dress front and sides. There is no bustle. The figure is accompanied by a plywood case consisting of a base and cover that attached with metal clamps. There is a paper label that reads, "1880 VICTORIAN DAY DRESS CHARACTERISTICS: BUSTLE DISCARDED FOR LONG CORSET. SKIRTS VERY NARROW, APRON FRONT, HANGING POUCHES IN BACK, MUFFS."
