Description

Red-and-white transfer-printed waste bowl. The interior center is printed with a small design of multiple classical temples or shrines. The interior rim is printed with a wide design of a geometric pattern with two cartouches showing the same scene at the center. The exterior is printed with a scene of a man in Roman armor holding a sling in front of several classical facades. The bottom is marked with a heraldic animal, the number 31, and the words, "T.MAYER. STOK UPON TRENT".

Context

Used during tea service to receive the cold tea from a cup before pouring a new, hot cup.
