Description

Round, tin canteen with a pouring/drinking spout at the center top. There is no textile cover. The label, "Walter CoE. 15 Regt. Vt. Vol Fifer" is scratched into the neck of the spout. There is a cork stopper with a metal ring. The cork is attached to a side bracket with a chain. Three side brackets hold a long, woven strap around the seam of the canteen.

Context

Owned by True Blake Walter during the Civil War. Walter served as a musician in Company E, 15th Regiment Vermont.
