Description

Red-and-white transfer printed plate showing the Bennington Monument at the center. The monument is shown as part of a landscape scene, with the surrounding park at the bottom. Flanking the monument are portrait busts of John Stark and Ethan Allen. The border has large cabbage roses interspersed with oval-framed Bennington scenes. The back is labeled with the inscription, "Bennington Battle Monument Erected 1867-1881 "There are the redcoats; they are ours, or Molly Stark sleeps a widow to night." Gen: John Stark. At Battle of Bennington, Aug: 16th 1777." It also bears a Wedgwood maker's mark and the label, "Made in England for C. F. Atkins, Bennington, Vermont."
