Description

Full-scale tailor's model of a coat. The coat is double breasted with two rows of 6 black buttons. There is a seam around the waistline, accented with piping. Two pockets are inset beneath the waistline, closing with flaps. The coat has a pointed falling collar and is faced with black-and-white striped silk that shows above the collar like piping when worn. The model has functional buttons and the neck is left open, but there are no sleeves and the hem is sewn shut, creating a sort of long tube. There is a label on the reverse that reads, "John Patterson & Co. 25+26 West 26th St. NY", and the penned name, "Mrs. Wm Wells".

Context

This tailor's model is a full-sized model of the coachman's uniform used by General William Wells' coachman.
