Revolving pistol made of steel and wood. The percussion revolver has six chambers in the unfluted cylinder, fitting .44 caliber shots. The barrel is eight-inches long, and the grip is made of walnut. The top of the barrel is marked, "PATENTED SEPT. 14,1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL".Context

This Remington pistol was used by William Gove of Marshfield during the Civil War. Gove enlisted in 1862 and served in Company C of the First Vermont Calvary until 1865. He was promoted from Private, to Corporal, to Sergeant Major by the time of his discharge. He returned to Vermont after the war and is buried in Plainfield.
