U.S. Army dress uniform hat made from green fabric and gold ornamentation. The front of the hat has a metal eagle insignia with the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and a gold band around the base secured to the hat with gold buttons. The brim features embroidered oak leaf ornamentation, signifying an officer. The inside of the hat has an orange lining with a label that reads "LUXENBERG / MILITARY & CIVILIAN TAILORS / Quality Supreme / NEW YORK," with 5 stars forming a ring in between the worlds Quality and Supreme.
Context
This hat was worn by Lawrence Rossi (1918-2025) of Barre during military service. He spent three years in the Pacific Theater during WWII, serving as a 1st Lieutenant with the Army's 172nd Infantry. After he was discharged in 1946 he continued to serve in the Vermont National Guard and was reactivated to serve in the Korean War. He retired as a Major from the Vermont National Guard in 1963.
