1902.1.1LLDescription
Copper coin with a bust on one side and the allegorical figure, Columbia, on the other. The face side shows a left-facing bust of a Roman figure, wearing a laurel wreath on his head, tied with a ribbon at the nape of his neck, and military armor. The words "VERMON: AUCTORI" ring the edge. The detail within the face is rubbed smooth, and a portion of the word "Vermon" is missing. On the reverse, Columbia is shown swathed in loose fabric, seated next to a shield bearing the Union flag. She is wearing a quiver of arrows on her back. The top of the design has been worn almost completely smooth. The date 1786 spans the bottom. The edge is decorated with a zig-zag design at the bottom and lower left.Context
