Description

Black silk dressing gown. The silk is printed in white with ovals created from smaller circles. The long sleeves and high collar are trimmed with black silk and black-and-tan plaid silk. The gown opens at the center front and buttons all the way to the floor, but only the top seven buttons are functional. There is a train. The gown is lined in brown glazed cotton, and the hem is bound with narrow black tape.

Context

Said to have been owned by Ruth Chamberlin Sutton (1886-1978), owner of the dry goods store "The Old Bee Hive" in Burlington, Vermont. She lived her whole life in Burlington.
