Sterling silver commemorative medal. One side of the medal shows a man and woman standing together looking to the right. the woman is holding a small cauldron and the man is holding a hatchet. There are mountains, a sheaf of wheat, and a millstone in the background with the inscription, "MIDDLEBURY . VERMONT SHIRETOWN 1776 1976 NATIONAL BICENTENNIAL." The other side of the medal shows a tall, four-story building with a square central town topped with a cupola. The building is labeled, "THE OLD CHAPEL", and the inscription, "MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE", rings the edge.Context
