Description

Navy blue felted wool sailor suit consisting of a jacket or tunic and pants. The jacket's collar is square in the back and has lapels int he front. There is a small pocket on one side of the chest. The center-front opening shows a decorative panel tacked to the back of each lapel embroidered in blue, yellow, and pink. Three mother-of-pearl buttons secure the center, and there is one on either sleeve cuff. The pants are bell bottomed and lace in the center back. There are side pockets that close with buttons. The pants are lined in white cotton.

Worn by Alfred M. Parkhurst, Company B, 10th Vermont Volunteers, during the Civil War.
