Description

Miniature vase in the shape of a basket. The front has an illustration a large brick building The illustration is labeled, "POST OFFICE, MONTPELIER, VT." The rest of the vase is lustered in gold.

Context

When it opened in 1891, the Montpelier post office was dubbed the "most beautiful federal building in the state." The Romanesque building was demolished in 1962 to make way for the current (abandoned) federal building on State Street.
