Description

Leather cartridge case that secures with a flap that covers the front of the case. There are slits for a metal plate (missing) at the center front. The interior is fitted with two tin inserts, each separated into two sections. Beneath the front flap on the front of the case is an additional envelope-style pouch. Printed with label, "WATERTOWN ARSENEL 1864".

Context

Owned by Charles Augustus Dean of Woodstock, Vermont, who fought with the 8th Vermont Infantry during the Civil War
