Private bank note for 5 cents from the Bank of Black River. It is printed with an illustration 2 indigenous American women at the left, and the inscription, "No. [5] / Bank of Black River, Will pay the bearer FIVE CENTS In current Bank Bills when presented in sums of even dollars, also Redeemed at our Office in Ludlow, Vt. Nov. 1862. [unsigned]." The numeral 5 is printed in black at the top right, and in red at the center. The note is pasted onto a piece of cardboard, that appears to have been part of a scrapbook. It has portions of a printed article along the left edge and a printed illustration at the center pasted to the back.Context
